  • Stade Rennais won this Sunday afternoon at Roazhon Park in the derby against Nantes (1-0).
  • It was the striker Martin Terrier who offered the victory to his partners by scoring “the most beautiful goal” of his career.
  • Thanks to this victory, Rennes pushes its neighbor and rival Nantes even further and remains in the race for Europe.

At Roazhon Park, Jérôme Gicquel

He covered his ears while celebrating his goal. Not to respond to criticism but rather as a nod to his friend Memphis Depay whom he rubbed shoulders with at Olympique Lyonnais. Martin Terrier could have a smile this Sunday afternoon. With a flash of genius, the Rennes striker offered victory to his partners in the derby against Nantes. Inheriting a ball slipped by Flavien Tait, Martin Terrier wound up a superb strike from the right which ended in the top corner of Alban Lafont (52nd). “It’s an attacking gesture, I shoot instinctively without looking at the positioning of the defenders and the goalkeeper,” said the Rennes striker after the match. “It’s the best goal of my young career,” he admitted.

Thanks to this jewel, Stade Rennais has therefore pushed even more its neighbor and rival Nantes who goes straight to Ligue 2. “We were there to win the derby, not to break down Nantes,” said Bruno Genesio. Because I think that French football needs to have clubs like that in Ligue 1 and if we want to know other derbies, they have to stay in Ligue 1 ”.

Still in the race for Europe

Unlike that of last season which gave birth to a final of madness at Roazhon Park, this derby will not go down in the annals. Because apart from the superb goal of Terrier, the spectacle was not spectacular on the lawn, with in particular a very dull first half and chopped by the faults. “In terms of content, we have to do a lot better,” admitted the Rennes coach. We still lacked percussion in the last 20-25 meters. We had several opportunities to kill the match but we did not manage to achieve them, it is part of the axes of progress ”.

Even if everything was not perfect, Stade Rennais made a good accounting operation in the race for Europe by grabbing two points from OM and Montpellier, two direct opponents. Six days before the end of the championship, Bruno Genesio refuses to talk about Europe. “We know that is the objective but we will see in the final sprint whether we are able to go for this European place,” he declared.

For the reception of Dijon in two weeks, the Rennes coach will also be deprived of his two central defenders Nayef Aguerd and Damien Da Silva and his striker Sehrou Guirassy, all three warned this Sunday and who will therefore be suspended.
