The ASM rants against the “outpouring of hate” from some of its fans

Very disappointing results, confirmed departure of executives at the end of the season (Arthur Iturria, Damian Penaud…), resignation of rear coach Xavier Sadourny… eleventh in the Top 14, ASM is going through a period of crisis at all levels, which caused a break with some of his fans, who are reputed to be among the best in France. Sunday, Clermont sank at home against his old rival Stade Toulousain (13-32), who had not won at Marcel-Michelin for twenty years.

This umpteenth disappointment has caused “the outpouring of hatred and insults from a very small minority of people whom we will never recognize as supporters”, wrote the club on Thursday.

A call to sacred union

In a press release published on its websitethe ASM wanted to condemn “insults and threats from the stands [dépassant le cadre habituel des réseaux sociaux où ils sont devenus coutumiers à défaut d’être ordinaires] far beyond what we can accept”.

Speaking to his fans, the 2010 and 2017 French champion says he is ready to “hear your reproaches, your disappointment, your anger and even your whistles”. But he also calls for not going beyond “the safeguard of respect” and for a sacred union: “in these complicated times to go through for the whole club, we are convinced that solidarity and support are our best allies. »

After 14 days, the team led by Jono Gibbes has only six points ahead of Brive, 13th and virtual play-off, and nine on the red lantern Perpignan. Precisely, the Catalan formation moves Saturday at the Marcel-Michelin stadium for a match under very high tension.
