The appalling destruction of the bodies of the victims mentioned at the trial

At the Loire-Atlantique Assize Court,

After having explained Monday morning to the Loire-Atlantique Assize Court his version of the quadruple murder of the Troadecs in Orvault, and having been confronted with his contradictions, Hubert Caouissin was questioned this Monday afternoon on the days which followed the homicides. A particularly difficult time for the families of the victims.

On February 17, back to his farm in Pont-de-Buis (Finistère), nearly 300 km from the Orvault house now inhabited by four lifeless bodies, Hubert Caouissin confesses to his companion Lydie, sister of Pascal Troadec , that he made “a big bullshit”. He then asks her to buy large garbage bags and wash bloody laundry. “I don’t remember exactly what I said. I was in the shoe polish ”, nuance Hubert Caouissin at the helm. “He had blood on his jacket and his pants. He had left to spy, it didn’t make sense to me. It was unreal, ”reports Lydie Troadec, also interviewed.

Transporting bodies? “A huge stupidity”

Equipped with walkie-talkies, both left for Orvault that same evening to “erase the traces”, leaving their 8-year-old son alone. Lydie Troadec remains in the vehicle parked in a nearby street. “Hubert asked me. I dozed off. It was very cold, ”she says. Caouissin, for his part, checks if there is “no noise” inside before setting foot on the scene of the crime again. “I saw that the bodies hadn’t moved, that they had changed color. Everything was overturned on the ground. I was surprised. The accused then decides to empty the garage, park the car of Sébastien’s son there, then undertakes to load the bodies.

“I put a plastic bag over Brigitte’s head and shoulders,” explains Hubert Caouissin. I didn’t want to see his face. At one point I broke down, I cried a lot. I asked her forgiveness. I had the impression that she had spoken to me. I asked her to help me get her into the trunk. “He says he repeated the operation with Pascal, Sébastien and Charlotte Troadec, not without” difficulties “. Then he puts on the clothes and a cap of the father of the family, to “adopt his appearance”, and brings the bodies back to Finistère. “A huge stupidity. It was necessary to leave everything in place, not to touch anything, ”he analyzes at the helm.

“I had the vision to put them in the boiler

On site, in Pont-de-Buis, the remains are placed on a tarpaulin, outdoors. The horror escalates. “I turned on the boiler and at one point I had the vision to put them in. I went to get a knife, a saw and a sharpening stone, ”continues Hubert Caouissin. But the accused did not want “especially not to see the heads” and decides “to remove them”. The limbs are also “detached”, as are “the skin and the muscles”. A part will be burned, another scattered “by hand” in brambles. “I was in another world, in my bubble. It had to go away. So that it doesn’t exist. “

The skulls were burned and then buried in a swampy seaside area. “I put them in a bag. It was banging on my back. I had a panic attack. I had the impression that they were attacking me. These skulls have never been found, unlike 379 fragments of flesh and bones. “I would have liked us to find them,” promises Hubert Caouissin. The Assize Court, however, reveals the story of a wiretapped co-detainee who told his partner that the investigators “are not looking in the right place”. “It’s an interpretation of a prisoner, their intellectual level is not very strong, tackles the accused. If the gendarmes cannot find it, it is because they are not in the right place. I don’t see what else I can say. “

“Hubert told me that it was not a pretty sight”

In total, the meticulous destruction of the four corpses lasted nearly four days. Lydie Troadec explains that she “saw nothing” or smelled anything. On February 20, the 50-year-old once again drives her partner to Orvault, then immediately returns to Brittany. “I was at the end of the line. I could not any more. But I had to go back to erase everything, ”says Hubert Caoussin. Exhausted by his intense cleaning, he even ended up “sleeping in Pascal and Brigitte’s bed”.

Lydie Troadec, she would “never entered the house”, repeats the couple. “I didn’t want to see the bodies. Hubert told me that it was not a pretty sight ”, loose the ex-companion. “I am disgusted to learn everything that has happened,” she adds a few minutes later. Do you believe Hubert Caouissin’s version of events, asks the president of the Assize Court? ” I do not know. Finally, if he says it, it is because he is telling the truth. I don’t see why he would lie. “
