The 500 inhabitants of the Obelisk tower ordered to leave their accommodation in a few days

They had five days to vacate their accommodation. This Wednesday, November 10, 500 inhabitants of the Obélisque tower of Epinay-sur-Seine (93) were forced to evacuate their apartment. A prefectural decree of Friday, November 5 required the evacuation of the inhabitants of the southern facade of this 32-storey condominium under penalty of having their apartment sealed.

The initial date finally advanced

The reason given by the authorities is the risk of a collapse of the balconies of the tower which could have had chain consequences on the apartments. A first judicial decision had led the prefecture to publish an order requesting a total evacuation of the building by December 8 at the latest. The inhabitants of the southern facade had the bad surprise to discover a letter at the end of last week which advanced this date to Wednesday, November 10, which left them only five days to find a solution of move. The date of December 8 is maintained for all other inhabitants.

Asked by our colleague from France Info, Jacques Witkowski, prefect of Seine-Saint-Denis justified this decision by a case of force majeure: “I have in my hands, like the mayor who has public responsibility, a report of legal experts which follows on from three expertises, certainly non-judicial, but which imposes on us an extremely short schedule of action. A risk that this expert considers extremely imminent and extremely strong. “
