The 35th edition aims to highlight the success of gene therapies

Let’s go for a new edition of the Telethon! The fundraising operation begins this Friday evening at 6:45 p.m. and will last all weekend. As usual, the France Télévisions channels are mobilizing, with around thirty hours of live planned, including a live from Marseille, with rapper Soprano, sponsor of the event tomorrow Saturday at 11:30 am on France 2.

It is also the return of the field. According to the AFM, the company which organizes the Telethon, more than 10,000 municipalities and nearly 50,000 associations are involved in collecting donations and organizing thousands of events throughout France. The objective of this 35th edition is clearly to return to normal after a 2020 edition marked by the Covid 19. Last year more than 77 million euros had been collected, a sharp drop compared to the Telethon 2019, which had reached the score of 87 million.

Pedagogy by example

To convince of the usefulness of the donation, the Telethon 2021 focuses on gene therapy. With the example of Jules, a 5-year-old boy. “Before the treatment, Jules was trapped in his body, he was on 24-hour life support, he didn’t have any strength, not even the strength to hold his head. Today, he breathes alone, stands, rides a bike, learns to walk “, explains the association, which also affirms on the poster of the event that” The Telethon has changed everything “

As a reminder, it is possible to donate by calling the now well-known 36 37, by Internet, via the challenges organized online, or even through a big raffle. On your marks, get set, give!

Sidragtion, the drag queens collect money for the Sidaction

Another fundraising operation this weekend, more confidential, but nevertheless important: the Sidragtion. Since 2016, every year around December 1, World AIDS Day, drag queens and drag kings have been touring the bars to collect donations, which are fully donated to the Sidaction association. After two editions only in Paris, the 2019 edition had also extended to Lille. This year, other cities should emulate them, notably Bordeaux. The collections will take place this Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 December in the early evening.
