According to a media report, Berlin IT experts have cracked Tesla’s autopilot system. The security researchers gained access to the board through a so-called hardware hack, reported Mirror. They then read the vehicle’s system.
To do this, the researchers at the TU Berlin expanded the system and manipulated the voltage, thereby disabling the circuit board’s protective systems. Among other things, they uncovered a secret driving mode in which the car drives completely autonomously. The data obtained in this way could be valuable for competitors who could understand how the autonomous driving functions work, it said.
However, such a hack is hardly possible with parked Tesla vehicles. The hackers said they reported the vulnerability to Tesla. The company itself commented in Mirror not about the security vulnerability.
