Horror is popular in French cinemas. The American film “Terrifier 3”, prohibited for spectators under 18, topped the French box office for the second day in a row, according to information from the specialist site Comscore.
Released this Wednesday, October 9, the third part of the trilogy dominates the entry rankings in France, ahead of “Lee Miller”, “Joker: Folie à deux”, “When Autumn Comes” and “The Wild Robot”.
According to BFMTVmore than 80,000 people came to the theaters on Wednesday and Thursday to see the work of director Damien Leone. It therefore only took 48 hours for the film to do better than “Terrifier 2”, released in 2022, which had recorded 70,939 admissions across its entire release.
Banning access to cinemas in France is extremely rare. It had not been applied to a horror feature film since “Saw 3”, in 2006. Even the very extreme “The Sadness”, broadcast in the summer of 2022, had only received a ban on under 16 years old, with warning.
This censorship is “deeply” regretted by the distributors, ESC Éditions, Shadowz Films and Factoris Films. “ Terrify 3 is an auteur film in the purest tradition of the so-called genre slasherwith perfectly grand-guignolesque and unrealistic violence, they emphasize.
