60,000 people, 550 meters long, 610 meters wide: With “Pangeos” an Italian design studio is showing a concept for the largest floating platform in the world – and a real holiday dream.
A ship so gigantic that previous designations are no longer sufficient: This is the “Tera yacht” “Pangeos” by the Italian design studio Lazzarini. “Pangeos” requires a new type of dry dock
The so-called “Tera yacht” is said to be more than half a kilometer long and over 600 meters wide. Lazzarini puts the costs at around eight billion US dollars and the construction time at eight years. Provided there is someone who wants to put the “Pangeos” into practice. Because the dry dock for the turtle still has to be built.
Inside the turtle there is room for 60,000 people, with villas, apartments and penthouses available as housing. The roof – i.e. the tank – would offer space for a large solar system to generate electricity and landing pads for the guests’ helicopters. Video Pangeos
“Unsinkable” – and around 9 km/h fast
The monster is supposed to swim thanks to 30,000 small cells in its belly, which are supposed to turn the “Pangeos” into an “unsinkable” platform. The “Tera yacht” is not only intended to float around, but to move with nine electric motors, each with 16,800 hp, at around five knots, i.e. 9.2 kilometers per hour.
Unlike the case with huge cruise ships like the gigantic “Wonder of the Seas” (362 meters long, 66 meters wide), the deck would not consist of water slides, stages and common rooms, but also of villas and houses. But of course there should be a public roof garden, beach clubs and a shopping center.
Lazzarini did not reveal whether there are already interested parties who could imagine implementing this project. Judging by the gigantomania of projects like The Line, however, Arab countries are particularly likely to be considered.
