Teodor Currentzis conducts his MusicAeterna ensemble in Baden-Baden – culture

Actually, a concert performance of Richard Wagner’s opera “Tristan und Isolde” should have been on the program here, at the Baden-Baden Autumn Festival. But a few weeks ago the program was changed, now Teodor Currentzis performed Giuseppe Verdi’s “Messa da Requiem” with his ensemble MusicAeterna. However, Currentzis also received “carte blanche” for a surprise concert, which included Wagner after all, and not too little: Currentzis led the MusicAeterna orchestra through almost all of Wagner’s preludes that could be decoupled, leading to “Lohengrin”, “Parsifal “, the “Meistersinger” and “Tristan und Isolde”. In terms of content, this is quite an arbitrary concert program, but one can still hear: Wagner, whom Currentzis has rarely conducted, suits him. The waves of the “Tristan” prelude slowly roll in, gradually condensing into a surf, very plastic and incessant in energy.
