The German Davis Cup team surprisingly missed out on making the group stage. Alexander Zverev and Co. were beaten 2: 3 in Switzerland’s qualification and are now fighting to stay in the tennis world group in the fall.

In the decisive individual, debutant Daniel Altmaier lost 3:6, 7:5, 4:6 in Trier after a big fight against the Swiss veteran Stan Wawrinka. Previously, Zverev had surprisingly lost in the top individual against Marc-Andrea Hüsler 2: 6, 6: 7 (4: 7).

The victory of Andreas Mies and Tim Pütz in doubles at the beginning of the second day was worthless. The German duo had defeated the two Swiss Wawrinka and Dominic Stricker 6: 7 (3: 7), 6: 3, 6: 4 and thus apparently put Germany on the road to victory. After the first day it was 1:1.
