“Ten years on YouTube is thirty years in normal life”… LeBouseuh, the man who was worth (almost) four million

He had a sensational 2022, during which he participated in the GP Explorer organized by Squeezie, before being aligned in the ranks of the French team for the Eleven All Stars football match. He then moved his entire team to premises twice as large, just next to Rennes, where you can meet a good part of his “Crouton team”.

From the top of his 28 years, the youtubeur LeBouseuh lives a waking dream. First known for his gaming videos, the native of Rennes has since diversified to talk about cars, motorcycles and even mule cuts. Paid choices that allow him today to display almost four million subscribers on YouTube.

Featured at the Geek Days festival which is being held in Rennes this weekend, Romain Goisbeau received 20 minutes in his colossal “local” office for an exchange without filter. His beginnings, his notoriety, Stade Rennais and his future on YouTube, LeBouseuh answered all our questions with ease. Z gone!

You have just moved into your new premises near Rennes. What is this youtubers landmark?

I love this place ! We had a room since 2019, but it had become too small. Here, we can each have our office. Before, it was a big open space, we saw each other all the time. There, we have an intimate side. When I started making a living from my videos, I found myself too limited being alone at home. I wanted to bring together youtubers, from Rennes or elsewhere, to take a place and work together. When you’re alone at home all the time, at first you’re happy, you no longer need to take the car to go to work. But after two or three years, you want to rediscover this dynamic of going to work and seeing people. Even for creativity, you have to have a place in common where you can create content, make videos.

Why did you choose to settle in Rennes?

Because I was born in Rennes! I’ve always wanted to highlight this city, especially now that I have some notoriety. I like to say that I am from Rennes when it comes to events, especially since I am with a lot of Parisians. I love highlighting this city. I often wear the Stade Rennais jersey for my videos, because I’ve been a fan of the club since I was little. At the time, I went with my grandpa, he was a subscriber, he took me to the stadium from time to time. I still go there regularly. Not every game, but at least once a month.

The beginnings of LeBouseuh, what was it?

I was a big fan of video games. I played it a lot and I will watch a lot of it as a spectator. And I said to myself: “why not me? “. I started when I was in BTS in Mayenne, in the middle of the countryside. It was summer, I was a cashier, I was bored. In my free time, I started doing live shows. With my first salary, I directly bought myself a PC and a screen, a desk, a chair. It started in 2015 in my apartment in Mayenne. Afterwards, I met people, we started talking to each other. I met Valouzz and Doc on Clash Royale. But the rest of the Crouton team was mostly on Fortnite. This is the game that made me take off from phew.

When you have spent almost eight years in gaming on YouTube, do you never get tired?

Ten years on Youtube, I have the impression that in a more ordinary job, it’s thirty years of normal life. There’s so much going on. Before, I went through the cashier stage, through the shelving, the sale of clothes. I tell myself that it’s still incredible to live from what you love. The dream life? Yes, in many aspects. But it is also a life with a lot of stress. There is a lot of paperwork, administration, pressure. There are ups and downs. We have moments with fewer views, where we are more hyped than others. We depend on platforms that don’t always want to put us forward. But it’s a big hit. I’m super happy, I don’t want it to end at all. That’s why I don’t ask myself too many questions. I do not anticipate the future. I continue as long as it works.

What’s your most viewed video?

It’s a clip (The Bosses). I’m too proud of that. We did that in twenty-four hours with Pidi, he’s my best friend. We went to a sound studio in Rennes, we did everything. It was fun, discovery. I have never sung and I know that I sing very badly. It needed a good sound engineer and a guy who mastered autotune.

Fifteen million views for someone who can’t sing isn’t bad, isn’t it?

It’s the impostor syndrome. There are youtubers who make videos that are much more qualitative in terms of images, sound and content but who get fewer views than me. This is my share of luck, I am aware of it. I played at the right time. I was with someone (youtuber TheKairi78) who had a lot of subscribers, so his community came to me. Without him and without certain games, I wouldn’t be here.

Was 2022 a crazy year for you?

Clearly, that was crazy. When I think of the France Spain football match or the GP Explorer. These two events were more than a dream. We see the power of YouTube, Twitch, networks… What we can do is monumental. People are starting to take us seriously. They tell themselves it’s not just a guy making videos in his bedroom.

This weekend, you are presenting your latest baby: a clothing brand.

It had been an idea for a long time. When I was in BTS, I did internships as a clothes salesman. I told myself that one day I would have my mark. And then I thought it was time. It’s called Lockd. We did it with my mom and a friend. We’re not like Zara or H & M, we do stuff when we want and when we can. It is my mother who manages all shipments, after-sales service and parcels. She’s my mother, I know I can trust her.

When is the retirement age for a YouTuber?

I took a local for three years, so I’m going full steam ahead! I have to earn enough to pay everyone. The objective would be to have a place of my own, to be the owner. Retirement age? As long as I like it and it works, I stay. In the evening, I go to bed, I am tired and I sleep well. And in the morning when I get up, I have the banana. Where it gets tough is the difference between private and pro. I do not have enough time. I love what I do and I dedicate my whole life to it. Maybe one day it will play tricks on me. I’m 28, maybe I should think about creating a family.
