Currently in theaters, The Worst Neighbor, with Tom Hanks, tells a great neighborhood story. But it is not only in the cinema that links are forged between inhabitants of the same landing, the same building or the same street. Indeed, a YouGov study shows that nearly two-thirds of respondents (65%) have good neighborly relations. And they are more than half (56%) to have already had an aperitif with a neighbour. Even better, 74% of respondents have already befriended a neighbor.
“Neighborhood relations have not disappeared in France, far from it,” adds Joanie Cayouette-Remblière, sociologist and researcher at INED (National Institute for Demographic Studies). In 2018, she co-authored a study on relations between neighbors. “The level of relations observed in 2018 is extremely similar to that revealed by the last major survey on the subject, in 1983.”
Finally, the YouGov study reveals that almost a quarter (23%) of respondents even believe in love at first sight between neighbours. What to write another nice film with Tom Hanks.
