After the films “Blade Runner” and “Blade Runner 2049”, the science fiction saga will be continued as a streaming series. Hunter Schafer will also star alongside Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh.

The science fiction saga “Blade Runner” is to be re-released as a streaming series. The cast for the mini-series entitled “Blade Runner 2099” is now growing. US model and actress Hunter Schafer (25, “Euphoria”, “The Hunger Games – The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes”) is to take on a leading role, as the US industry papers “Hollywood Reporter” and “Variety” reported.

It was already announced in May that Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh (61, “Everything Everywhere All at Once”) plays an important role. However, details about the characters are still under wraps.

The cinema classic “Blade Runner” (1982) by director Ridley Scott tells of an apocalyptic world in what was then the distant future – in 2019. When danger threatens through artificially created replicants, former Blade Runner Rick Deckard, played by Harrison Ford, is called in. In 2017, director Denis Villeneuve brought “Blade Runner 2049” to cinemas – with Ryan Gosling and Ford in the leading roles.

The title of the series now planned for Amazon Prime Video suggests that it is set in the year 2099. Ridley Scott (86) is on board as executive producer, Silka Luisa (“Shining Girls”) as screenwriter and showrunner. The first two episodes are directed by Brit Jonathan van Tulleken (“Shogun”).
