Telekom expands fiber optic network in Neubiberg – district of Munich

It is now clear how the broadband expansion in the municipality of Neubiberg is to be advanced: Telekom will expand the fiber optic network on its own. The municipal council members of the special committee for administration buildings and digitization were informed about this on Monday. First of all, the municipality had an actual analysis and a market survey carried out. It turned out that five areas in the community are supplied with less than 100 megabits per second. In principle, these would be eligible for funding via a federal funding program or the Bavarian gigabit guideline.

At the same time, however, it was also determined whether third-party providers would carry out the expansion in the community at their own expense. Two companies applied. For an expansion, one would have required 30 percent of households to join, as Robert Thonicke, deputy head of the main office, explains to the SZ. According to Thonicke, Telekom is ready to expand without a quota. “Of course we’re happy about that,” says the head of department. The fiber optic network will be expanded throughout the community, all households will have the opportunity to connect.

The option with Telekom also has an advantage for the community itself: the company will also lay empty ducts to the community properties so that the community can also expand its own fiber optic network. According to Thonicke, Telekom and the municipal civil engineering department will now discuss where it makes sense to start. A start is generally planned for this year.
