Teknival banned in Villegongis: another 15,000 people present Sunday evening, the end scheduled for Monday

The festival-goers who came to participate in the illegal Teknival of Villegongis (Indre) were fewer and fewer on Sunday evening, but nearly 15,000 people were still present on the scene.

About 15,000 revelers were still present this Sunday evening in Villegongis, in Indre, for the Teknival which settled illegally on land since last Thursday.

“We estimate that we have fallen well below the bar of 20,000 participants on the site, we are probably on the verge of 15,000 at the moment, that is to say around another 3,000 vehicles present on the site”, a declared the prefect of Indre Stéphane Bredin during a press briefing at the end of the afternoon.

Attendance at the Teknival, which had not been able to take place since 2019 due to the Covid-19 pandemic and which had chosen Villegongis (110 inhabitants) to celebrate its 30th anniversary, had exceeded the 30,000 mark on Saturday night see you on Sunday. Authorities expect the event to last until Monday morning.

In total, some 400 gendarmes were mobilized on Sunday to ensure the security of the site, traffic and controls around it.

The check has been “systematic” for all drivers since mid-morning and until 4 p.m. Then they were lightened “to make traffic more fluid and allow evacuation to be done more quickly”, explained the prefect. “Since 7 a.m. (Sunday), we have checked 4,200 vehicles and more than 7,400 people who have left the site,” he added.

The previous night, the gendarmes had checked 9,522 people and 3,423 vehicles, with 47 verbalizations for driving under the influence of narcotics, 10 for driving while intoxicated and 293 for possession of narcotics.

From a health and medical point of view, the results of the night remained limited thanks to the preventive actions carried out on the site by the associations and the rescue missions, as well as by the presence of the firefighters and emergency teams.

The rescuers had taken care of 109 participants during the night and the advanced medical post installed in the center of Villegongis recorded 19 entries.
