The musician Ted Herold, known for over 50 years, and his wife Manuela died in a fire. Now the police are investigating.

His career lasted almost 50 years until Ted Herold announced his departure from the stage a few years ago. Now the 79-year-old has died in a fire in his apartment. His second wife Manuela, 48, also fell victim to the fire.

The police confirmed this to the local portal “Ruhr24”. According to the rescue workers, Herold’s father-in-law, who lives with his wife in the basement of the same house, wanted to see Manuela in the early evening. The fire brigade reported in a press release. When nobody opened, he opened the door with his own key. Flames hit him immediately.

Ted Herold could no longer be saved

The father then tried to get into the apartment with a ladder from the back of the house. The rescue workers who were called quickly could only enter the apartment with breathing apparatus. They quickly found the lifeless herald and took him outside. A second task force could only find his wife after the smoke had been let outside through an opening. It was too late for the two residents: the local doctors could only determine that they were dead. Manuela’s parents, aged 79 and 85, were hospitalized with suspected smoke inhalation.

Now the police are investigating how the fire could have come about. According to initial findings, the fire started at 6:15 p.m., and the fire brigade was alerted just a few minutes later. So far there is no official information on possible causes of the fire. The investigation continues, according to the police.

Ted Herold looked back on a long career. He signed his first record deal at the age of 16, and in the 50s he had his first successes with rock-n-roll songs. After music slowly went out of fashion, he first worked as a workshop manager before making several comebacks and appearing in programs such as “Lindenstrasse”. In 2016 he announced his retirement from the stage.
