Teams and Outlook down: This is behind Microsoft’s Office failure

Microsoft is struggling with server problems

Ironically, at the start of the working day, there is a problem in many offices. Microsoft’s cloud services have hiccups – and sometimes fail completely.

It is one of the most important business areas of the software giant: Microsoft has successfully dominated the important market for office software for years. Now many customers are feeling the downside. Because the group apparently has server problems, the most important work tools are stuck in many offices.

The failure is particularly noticeable in the Teams and Outlook communication systems. Messages and e-mails only arrive sporadically and in the wrong order – or they don’t come at all. Even the video conferences that are important in the home office are often hardly possible.

Office 365: Global issues

Pages such as “All Disturbances” show how big the failure is: Since the morning, reports of failures have been going through the roof there. At the peak around 9 a.m., over 10,000 users there reported problems with the Office programs.

The disturbances are not imaginary. Reports of a major outage are being investigated, Microsoft reported on Twitter around nine. Half an hour later they had apparently found a reason. Possible network problems have occurred. The culprit is obviously the configuration of a server.

Updates: Microsoft believes it has found bugs

The company promises to start troubleshooting now. However, they are currently still looking for a way to circumvent the problems without triggering another failure themselves, the support team reported at 10.06 German time.

In the meantime, an option seems to have been found, the group reports at 10:26 a.m. A change in the network should therefore be responsible for the error, it has now been withdrawn. The Group assures that it will keep an eye on any problems that may arise as a result.

Apparently, however, one is also affected by the problems: A link to further information on the disruption could not be reached at 10 a.m. German time.

This text will be updated with further information as it becomes available.
