Taxes 2023: nearly one in two French people risk a fine of 150 euros if they forget to fill out this form

The owners of a property, whether it is a main, secondary residence or a rented accommodation, must complete an online declaration, called “declaration of occupation” with the Tax Department before June 30. In the event of forgetting, the persons concerned expose themselves to a fine of 150 euros.

Thirty-four million French people are concerned and nearly one in two risks a fine if they forget. Owners of real estate, whether it is a primary or secondary residence, as well as rented or vacant accommodation, have until July 1, 2023 to complete an online occupancy declaration with the Fisc.

The objective of this approach is to allow the General Directorate of Public Finance (DGFiP) to “precisely determine the owners still liable for the housing tax”, according to the site. service-public.fr. To do this, the owners must declare the identity of the occupants and the period of occupation of each of their properties before 1er next July.

The official website of the French administration specifies that in the event of “non-declaration, error, omission or incomplete declaration, a fine of a fixed amount of 150 euros per premises may be applied”.

How do I declare my assets?

To make this declaration online, you must go to the site impots.gouv.fr with his tax number and password. Once this step has been completed, you must click on the “Real estate” tab in order to make an occupancy declaration for all of your assets. To help, the “Manage my properties” tab summarizes all the information to be provided.

In order to assist owners in this administrative process, “the occupancy data known to the tax services will be pre-displayed”. No new declaration will then be necessary, except in the event of a change of situation for one of your declared assets.

If in doubt, there are two ways to help you in your approach. The first is to contact the assistance number for private users on 0 809 401 401 (non-surcharged number). The second is to use the secure messaging service of the tax department, via the form “I have a question about the Property service” or directly via the “Contact and appointment” section.
