The war against Russia, which has been going on since 2022, is costing Ukraine and its foreign backers billions. This is huge business for many companies, and not all of them pay taxes.

Ukrainian investigators against economic crime have found over 4.7 million euros in black money in the trunk of the Cars belonging to a company accountant were discovered. “The woman could not explain the origin of the money,” said the Kiev region’s investigative authority. Pictures showed investigators in front of an open trunk in which bundles of cash were piled up.

The company in question supplied food to the Ukrainian army for the equivalent of over 320 million euros in 2022 and 2023 alone. The tax burden was reduced through a fictitious loan. Investigations are underway for money laundering and tax evasion on a particularly high scale. Those involved face up to eight years in prison.

Ukraine has been defending itself against a Russian invasion for almost two and a half years and is receiving massive financial support from Western countries.
