She was supposed to read a contribution to the chemistry summit in the Chancellery, but “Tagesschau” spokeswoman Susanne Daubner burst out laughing. This is the reason.

Reading the news neutrally and seriously: This is what most viewers expect from the speakers of the “Tagesschau”. But there are always glitches in the live broadcast. Susanne Daubner got it on Wednesday morning – and not for the first time. The 62-year-old was supposed to read a report on the chemistry summit in the Chancellery in the “Tagesschau” edition at 7:30 a.m., but Daubner began the program with a fit of laughter. Although she apologized several times, she failed to remain serious. “I’m really sorry now. Oh man,” said Daubner and even shed a few tears of laughter. She tried to re-read the message several times, but had to stop again and again and laugh heartily. “No, I can do it, I have to get it there…” Daubner stammered.

The reason for Daubner’s fit of laughter initially seems banal: The “Morgenmagazin” previously ran an article about the Rugby World Cup in France. “Moma” presenter Sven Lorig then revealed in the studio that no one in the editorial team really knew anything about the sport. “I just googled the rules. We have to deal with them more,” he said to his colleague Anna Planken. She commented: “You have about 3.40 minutes now, because in that time Susanne Daubner announced the morning’s news.” When the “Moma” moderators switched to Daubner in the studio, she was already laughing heartily – and couldn’t stop herself in the following minutes.

Lorig was visibly uncomfortable that he had upset the speaker so much. “I’m sorry. I’m going down on my knees,” he said after the “Tagesschau” broadcast, and Planken also apologized: “We didn’t want that at all.”

Not the first mishap at the “Tagesschau” for Susanne Daubner

It wasn’t the first time that Susanne Daubner lost the thread during a live broadcast. In April 2012 there was There was a glitch in the “Tagesschau”., which made the speaker laugh out loud. Daubner was reading a message when suddenly a second soundtrack and music could be heard. Just as Daubner was talking about the allocation of broadcasting rights for the Bundesliga, the program “ran” was playing in the background. “I think there are technical problems here,” said Daubner and then burst out laughing. While she was reading the news, colleagues in the studio were apparently watching the rival station Sat.1, which was broadcasting the summary of the Champions League game between Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.
