“T Phone”: Telekom brings 5G smartphones under its own brand

Telekom is now also offering the 5G smartphones of its own brand T Phone, which was launched in the USA last year, in Germany. The two differently sized models “T Phone 6” and “T Phone 6 Pro” come with equipment from the upper middle class and are available in connection with a mobile phone contract for 1 euro.

Both smartphones contain a system-on-chip from Mediatek that runs Android 12. The MT6833 Dimensity 700 is manufactured using a 7 nm process and belongs to the upper middle class. The processor has two Cortex-A76 cores that clock at up to 2.2 GHz and six Cortex-A55 with 2 GHz. In the T Phone 6, the processor can access 4 GB of RAM, the Pro model has 2 GB more. SoC supplier Mediatek works with Google in the “GMS Express” program, which promises compatibility with Android and Google services.

The T Phone 6 Pro has a 6.8″ IPS display with a resolution of 720×1640 pixels and measures almost 174×78×9 millimeters. The smaller sister’s 6.5″ display has a resolution of 720×1600 pixels ; the T Phone 6 is slightly smaller at 166×76 millimeters. The Pro has a 50-megapixel camera, while the T Phone 6 has 13-megapixels. The selfie camera is also better equipped with 16 instead of 5 megapixels. Both smartphones process video at 1080p and 30fps.

Overall, the larger “Pro” model is also somewhat better equipped, which is expressed, for example, in the built-in NFC chip. With 128 GB, the T Phone 6 Pro has twice as much storage space. The battery is also slightly larger at 5000 mAh compared to the T Phone 6’s 4500 mAh; the Pro model also charges wirelessly. For the T Phone Pro 6, Telekom charges 269 euros without a contract, and the T Phone 6 then costs 219 euros.

The “T Phones” are based on the “Revvl” models available from T-Mobile USA. The US subsidiary of Telekom introduced the own brand in 2017 for T-Mobile customers in the USA. The devices were apparently initially manufactured by TCL/Alcatel, for the current models the database of the US regulatory authority FCC lists the Chinese contract manufacturer Wingtech Technology as the manufacturer.

The sixth generation of devices, which T-Mobile presented in the USA in September, is now also coming to the German market. In the autumn of the year, Deutsche Telekom already included these 5G mobile phones for the mass market in its European subsidiaries in Croatia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Austria, Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Hungary.
