SZ series Fade Time – Snow Bar in Unterhaching – District of Munich

Finaly snow! It is still a very manageable amount that has accumulated near the city so far, but in the coming days, according to the weather forecast, a few more flakes will fall from the sky in Unterhaching as well. Maybe it’s enough for the first snowman. Or even for a small snow bar in the garden. In any case, the Köhlers in Unterhaching would try their hand at building master again, because last Corona winter it was just great fun in a small family circle.

It has to be said that the three sons of the state parliament member Claudia Köhler are actually long out of the snowman age. The youngest is 19, the oldest 25. “We haven’t done that for a long time,” says the Green politician. But it was lockdown in the first long Corona winter 2020 and everyone was sitting at home. There was no Christmas market, and there was no skiing either. So the Köhlers looked for private fun in the snow in their own garden and designed the cool bar. They quickly realized that you need a lot of snow for this, actually everything that the property had to offer. “Afterwards, the lawn looked as if we had walked over it with the vacuum cleaner,” remembers Claudia Köhler.

The best way to build is, of course, with rather damp snow. Anyone who has ever tried to shape a snowball out of powder snow or even to roll the big belly for the snowman will quickly have noticed that the beautiful white mass crumbles in the hands before it can even take any shape. A little water from the watering can can help, or you can just wait a few days for the fresh snow to dampen by itself. In December, of course, it can be gone quickly, and it often gets warmer again at the end of the year.

In any case, the Köhlers’ snow bar was so firm and cold that they could even add a small freezer compartment for the prosecco. However, there were also warm drinks on the bar decorated with fairy lights. Claudia recommends hot chocolate with rum for family reunions at the snow bar. “Not a particularly difficult recipe,” she jokes. Briefly boil 400 milliliters of milk for two people. Then finely chop 50 grams of milk chocolate. Stir two tablespoons of cocoa powder into the boiling milk and bring to the boil again. Then add the chocolate and let it melt with the hob switched off. Stir well and finally add 80 milliliters of rum. Best served with cream. The drink is also called “Lumumba” by some.

The steady time is a bland time this year. With this series, the SZ tries to bring at least a little bit of light into Advent every day.
