SZ podcast – Twitter: “Elon Musk abuses his power” – Economy

Since buying Twitter, Elon Musk has faced mass layoffs, unbanning rabble-rousers, and chaos around verified accounts. Now the short message service has the accounts of several journalists Washington Post, New York Times and CNN blocked.

According to the Twitter boss, they had “doxxed” because they are said to have passed on personal information about him. The journalists reported on the Twitter account of a 20-year-old American who had published freely available information on the movements of Musk’s private jet there. Journalists’ associations see freedom of the press as endangered. Criticism also comes from the federal government and the EU Commission.

Above all, he was shocked by Musk’s treatment of his employees and employees, says Simon Hurtz from the SZ digital team. He treated “people like dirt”. It was “completely irrelevant” to him “whether anyone was chronically ill or pregnant” – he fired her anyway. Every day it shows anew “that Musk doesn’t give a damn about his fellow human beings”. The recent blocking of journalist accounts also shows how hypocritical the alleged return to “full freedom of expression” is, which Musk wanted to guarantee. “He has tweeted several times over the past few weeks that he is committed to ensuring that even his harshest critics are allowed to stay on Twitter. And now he has just blocked the account of a 20-year-old young man from the USA who dared to do so to share the flight movements of his private jet on Twitter.”

This was still understandable, but it was “really completely absurd” that he was now having the reports on this case blocked. Here “with all the drama” show what it means that Twitter belongs to Musk. Musk is “a very special case of the autocrat” and the first “who not only uses this power, but simply abuses it offensively”.
