In November 2021, Olaf Scholz spoke out clearly for the first time and later announced that general vaccination should come by the beginning of 2022.

After that it doesn’t look like it. Scholz has rejected the leading role in this debate, says **Henrike Roßbach**, SZ correspondent in Berlin. Because the decision on a corresponding law on the question of conscience was made in the Bundestag, various groups are currently working on corresponding applications. But: “Many MPs are still looking,” and have not yet made their final decision. This is also due to the changed situation caused by the Omicron variant, according to Roßbach.
