SZ Podcast “On the Point” – News from February 7th, 2022 – Politics

The omicron wave continues to dominate the infection process throughout Europe. This is one of the reasons why Germany’s Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) is not yet promising any relaxation of the measures. Above all, the FDP wants to quickly abolish the contact restrictions nationwide. Denmark is a pioneer, because all restrictions were lifted there a week ago.

The Danes have met the pandemic “with great common sense,” says SZ Scandinavia correspondent Kai Strittmatter. Four reasons in particular speak for the successful fight against Corona from Scandinavia’s “trust societies”: There, the recommendations of the state are followed much more, there is also a great deal of political unity, advanced digitization and a much higher test rate. In Denmark, however, the vaccination rate is also higher: around 81 percent of the total population is fully vaccinated and 95 percent of those over 65 are boosted, according to Strittmatter. The number of corona infections would therefore no longer be reflected in the hospitals.
