SZ podcast “On the Point” – News from December 13th, 2021 – Politics

Annalena Baerbock has been sworn in as Foreign Minister since last Wednesday and has been on the road since then: in less than a week she was in Paris, Brussels, Warsaw and at the G7 meeting in Liverpool. This Monday she is back in Brussels – for the meeting of EU foreign ministers. There are enough crises to deal with.

With all the appointments, can you already see how Baerbock will shape German foreign policy in the next few years? SZ policy editor Paul-Anton Krüger was traveling with Baerbock and says: “She performed as if she had been there for a long time.” He thinks that Baerbock will primarily want to set the tone in international climate policy. How much it can be measured against its goal of making a “value-based” foreign policy will then be shown, for example, by dealing with China and the Olympic Games next year.
