SZ podcast “Munich personally”: Kathrin Lehmann in conversation – Munich

Kathrin Lehmann, footballer and ice hockey player, talks about ambition, bullying in the changing room and the high salaries of her male colleagues.

Kathrin Lehmann is one of the most successful professional athletes in Europe. She has won two Champions League titles: one in soccer, the other in ice hockey. The expertise of the native of Zurich and Munich-by-choice is in great demand: During the Women’s World Cup in England in the summer of 2022, she was an expert on German television. Now the 42-year-old will comment on the men’s World Cup in Qatar. She herself is critical of the award to the Arab country for boycotting the World Cup, but she doesn’t believe in that.

How did Kathrin Lehmann get into her sports? What role do parents and coaches play in a career? How do you feel after losing a match? The former top athlete talks about why she never cried on the pitch, what she thinks of the salaries of her male soccer colleagues, and a lot more in the tenth episode of the podcast “Munich personally”.

The first part of the conversation took place on tram line 19 on the way from the Westend to the Nationaltheater. Kathrin Lehmann wanted to get off there because the opera and the dog Fleur are also part of her life – and the four-legged friend feels better in the fresh air.

For the podcast of the Munich editorial team, Ulrike Heidenreich and René Hofmann, the heads of the Munich, Region and Bavaria departments, as well as People editor Sabine Buchwald, pick up their guests at their place of residence or their place of work. They then travel their personal route by tram, bus, subway or S-Bahn, sometimes also by cycle rickshaw or taxi.

It’s about current projects and very personal plans, about topics that move the city. About personal experiences, about favorite places in Munich, about your favorite club and much more. The SZ podcast team invites people who have a connection to Munich. You live in the city or you are visiting. They come from the fields of politics, gastronomy, culture, sports or media.
