SZ podcast: “Last Generation”: “Demands are sideshows” – Economy

The climate activists of the self-proclaimed Last Generation have announced that they will peacefully bring Berlin to a standstill next week. So that the government moves, as they say. The first actions have been running since Wednesday.

Protest researcher Dieter Rucht from the Berlin Social Science Center criticizes the self-proclaimed last generation: “We have a clear majority of people in the population who say: We think climate protection is good and right. But at the same time we also have a clear majority of people who say: We reject these actions.” The strategy of the climate activists is “the greatest possible disruption to public operations”.

The demands of the “last generation” are “not radical,” says Rucht. 9-euro ticket, speed limit, a loose citizens’ council: “I would describe them more as sideshows.” And: “These are not the big construction sites for climate protection.”

SZ Plus Podcast “German Angst”

More and more people in Germany want to be prepared when a disaster strikes. So far, so reasonable. But there are also people who fear and worry about winning voters or making money. And then there are extremists who want to bring about a day X that could change everything, even through attacks. A podcast research that leads from the forests outside Cottbus to the Bundestag. To right-wing extremists and to people who have infiltrated the suspected terrorist group United Patriots.
