Because of too many corona infections, you can no longer keep up with the tracking on Sylt. Now restaurants and hotels are voluntarily closing down in order to avoid even more contamination.

Sylt has prescribed a Corona break for itself. Over the turn of the year, the incidence on the island has risen to a record high, and the responsible health department is no longer able to keep track of contacts. That’s why many restaurants and hotels are now closing – voluntarily.

A Christmas party with consequences

476 people are sick with Corona on Sylt, another 572 are currently in quarantine. According to tourism director Moritz Luft, there are only mild courses and no infected person has had to go to the hospital so far, he tells the “world”.

The starting point was possibly a Christmas party in a Nobel club on Sylt. Subsequently, 23 people tested positive for the corona virus, which was then apparently carried on into the families and thus caused the most violent outbreak on the island to date. In order to get the situation under control again, the tourist companies do not wait for political decisions, but act immediately. As the “Welt” reports, more than 20 restaurants have already ceased operations for the time being. And hotels, too, more or less voluntarily prescribe a Corona break.

Sylt: Companies give themselves a break

And it will not have been the last companies on Sylt where the doors will no longer be opened for the time being. The reasons are different: Corona cases in your own environment or already planned time outs, for example. The spontaneous Corona break is unlikely to cause any major problems at any of the companies, said tourism director Moritz Luft of “Welt”. The time after the turn of the year is always a bit quieter anyway. It is not known how long the companies will remain in their self-imposed break.
