In a game with few chances, Switzerland could not manage more than a draw (1:1) against Scotland. With a dream goal from Xherdan Shaqiri, the national team secured an important point to ensure their likely progress to the round of 16.

Scott McTominay is 1.93 metres tall, and none of his Scottish teammates can smell the air in these spheres. You might think that this is a player you could send into an aerial duel. But not at all, McTominay is the one who takes the corner kicks for Scotland. Sure, he is the most technically skilled Scot, but the wisdom of European Championship legend Otto “Rehakles” Rehagel still applies today: “You can’t train to be six foot tall!”

The Scottish fans, with their unwavering enthusiasm, have been one of the crowd favorites of this tournament since the opening match against Germany. “Communication is difficult when the Scots are in the stadium, but when they score a goal, it’s impossible,” said ARD presenter Esther Sedlaczek at halftime. “We measured the volume and it was almost 110 decibels.”
The Scottish fans are simply something very special. “You looked the fans in the eyes, some of them were really wet,” said Sedlaczek. “We almost had tears in our eyes.”
