Swiss – compulsory vaccination for flight personnel – economy

The Swiss airline Swiss is introducing compulsory corona vaccination for its flying personnel. The “Covid-19 mandatory vaccination” will apply from November 15, announced the Lufthansa subsidiary in Basel on Tuesday. The reason for this are the worldwide country-specific entry regulations, which increasingly require a vaccination for crews as well. For example, Hong Kong is now requiring crews from some countries to provide proof of vaccination, including for flights from Switzerland. “The different handling of vaccinated and unvaccinated crew members and the associated high complexity of operational planning would mean that orderly flight operations could no longer be ensured in the long term,” explained Swiss. Individual destinations and regions could no longer be served. In addition, different handling leads to unequal treatment in terms of the availability of crew members. Swiss also wants to fulfill its duty of care towards its employees in the cockpit and cabin. The airline bases the vaccination requirement on clauses in the collective employment contracts of the cockpit and cabin staff, which provide for such a measure under these circumstances, it said.
