Sustainable new buildings: Up to 150,000 euros in federal funding

Status: 01/25/2023 1:40 p.m

Anyone who plans to build in the near future and takes climate-friendly standards into account can receive up to 150,000 euros in funding from the federal government. It should run on low-interest loans.

New rules for subsidies for new buildings will soon apply to builders in Germany. According to the plans of the federal government, builders for particularly sustainable residential buildings can receive a maximum subsidy of 150,000 euros per unit. Climate-friendly residential buildings without a sustainability seal of quality are therefore funded with up to 100,000 euros per residential unit.

Interest rate reduction of up to four percent per year

This emerges from the key figures of the Federal Ministry of Building, which were available to the dpa news agency in Berlin. It is about funding through low-interest loans. The interest rate reduction is up to four percent per year of the loan amount, based on standard market conditions. Federal Building Minister Klara Geywitz explained:

Climate-friendly construction is no longer an optional decision, but a must. Anyone who builds today as they used to in order to save money is damaging the climate and their wallets with horrendous additional costs.

In concrete terms, the federal government supports the new construction and initial purchase of climate-friendly residential and non-residential buildings with an annual amount of 750 million euros that meet the energy standard of an efficiency house 40 and fall below specific limits for greenhouse gas emissions.

There is greater support for buildings that also achieve the “Sustainable Building” quality seal. Investors, cooperatives, companies and private individuals are entitled to apply for the low-interest loans.

Applications for this can be submitted to the state development bank KfW from March. In addition, municipalities and districts receive investment grants, for example for the construction of apartments, day-care centers or schools.

Property promotion for families from June

Recently, Geywitz had also announced a new property promotion for families from June. Families with an annual income of up to EUR 60,000 plus EUR 10,000 per child are eligible. EUR 350 million per year is available for this KfW program with low-interest loans. The total volume of new construction funding is 1.1 billion euros.
