The shock of the day in the Premier League will surely be delayed a bit. As Manchester United host Liverpool at 5.30 p.m. in an important Champions League game, home fans have protested loudly on the outskirts of Old Trafford to demand the departure of club owners, the Glazer family. Scorched for many months already, they do not forgive MU’s participation in the (aborted) Super League project.

Joe Glazer, the co-owner, had apologized within the week. But that did not convince the fans, so uplifted that they forced access to the lawn of Old Trafford, according to images broadcast by Sky Sports.

“You can buy our club but you will not be able to buy our heart and our soul”, one could read on a banner, while the fans wore, for many of them, the colors green and gold, symbols of the protest anti-Glazer. They indeed evoke Newton Heath, a club founded in 1878 which would become Manchester United 24 years later. They lit smoke bombs, climbed into the cages and in the stands, chanting “We want the Glazers gone.”

For the moment, the Premier League has not postponed the kick-off of this meeting which could also decide the title this season. In case of victory for the Reds on the lawn of their historic rival, Manchester City could no longer be joined by United and would be crowned two days before their semi-final return of the Champions League against PSG.
