Supply chain – industry fears a “stop-and-go year” – economy

Significant recovery from the Corona crisis, but persistent problems due to disrupted supply chains: The Federation of German Industries (BDI) expects 2022 to be a “stop-and-go year”. The order books are full, but the companies cannot keep up with production, said BDI President Siegfried Russwurm on Thursday in Berlin: “The upswing is not really gaining momentum.” The corona pandemic is still the dominant topic, the hoped-for boom after the crisis does not materialize. Should the Omicron wave paralyze important trading partners such as China or the USA, this would have devastating consequences for the German export economy. The BDI expects economic growth of 3.5 percent this year, after around two and a half percent in 2021. After all, it would be the strongest momentum since 2010.
