Sunday brunch in Munich: seven café tips for a good breakfast – Munich

sorry johnny

In the Sorry Johnny coffee bar in Haidhausen, it’s not just the color of the portafilter machine that goes perfectly with the green tiled wall. The three operators Florian Vogt, Katrin Brüggemann and Johannes Rühl have also given a lot of thought to the food. For a sumptuous Sunday brunch, try their French toast, which the café is known for. Not only the brioche, but also the jam is homemade. The granola, which is served in the café with roasted plums, is also homemade.

If you prefer something hearty, order one of the bread creations made with bread from the Julius Brantner bakery, for example with avocado or beetroot. Or choose the Eggs Florentine, two poached eggs on sourdough bread and sautéed spinach with a Mornay sauce, a béchamel twist.

Every Sunday from 11 a.m. there is an Arabic brunch in the Lebanese restaurant Al Shaam in Neuhausen. Homemade dumplings, yoghurt with mint, cheese and a fava bean stew are among the dishes on the menu. All dishes are freshly prepared. Because the “Al Shaam Special Sunday Brunch” is designed as a menu, the Arabic dishes are brought to the table one by one.

It starts with flatbread with vegetables, olives and pepperoni. Fatteh is also served. This is flatbread that is mixed with chickpeas, sesame paste, yogurt and olive oil. What is particularly special at Al Shaam is the Mana’eesch, a kind of crispy Lebanese breakfast pizza. They are available with minced meat, cheese or the spice mixture zatar. Except for the Mana’eesch with meat, all brunch specialties in the restaurant are vegetarian. A glass of orange juice is served with it. You have to order other drinks.

Actually, Spain is the land of tapas, actually they are eaten in the evening. At Bapas in Schwabing, however, miniature versions of traditional Bavarian dishes are served: mini Viennese schnitzel with mini potato salad or a mini Frieberdatschi, for example. The Bavarian tapas, called Bapas for short, are not only available at lunchtime and in the evening, but also in the morning. Guests can choose breakfast tapas from the menu until 2 p.m. You can choose, for example, from egg dishes, mini white sausages or mini croissants.

It is best to order a selection for the whole group at the table and then share – as you know it from classic tapas food. If you don’t want to put together your own breakfast and are coming as a couple, you can order the “Gönn dir Frühstück” for two, which is served with a mix of everything the breakfast menu has to offer. The concept is well received by guests. A reservation is therefore recommended.
