If you like the heat and the sun, you will appreciate all the more the arrival of these summer conditions on the whole country in the coming days and next week. This will be the first period of stable and sustainable summer weather this spring of 2023.

After a second decade of May cooler than normal (deficit of 1 to 2°C on a national scale), temperatures are rising for this Pentecost weekend. The situation will be blocked again in the next few days with stable and dry conditions in the north, but more unstable in the south, despite a summer feeling.

An anticyclonic blockage situation

The northern half will begin its third week of dry weather on Monday, without any precipitation, while the situation will become more unstable in the southern regions. This blocking situation is linked to an anticyclone anchored for more than 15 days in the vicinity of the British Isles which has installed a sensitive northeasterly flow over the entire northern half of France. On the other hand, the Mediterranean basin is exposed to a low pressure situation with instability and numerous storms. Your feeling was therefore often quite cool in the north, in particular due to the northeast wind which is blowing constantly. In the south, thunderstorms and rains were frequent, resulting in a sometimes gloomy feeling.

Moderate heat and a stormy trend in the south

If the situation will therefore remain blocked for the next few days, the air mass will warm up with the rise of air of subtropical origin. From this Pentecost weekend, you will feel the difference in the north with temperatures worthy of a month of June. In the south, the values may approach or even exceed the threshold of high temperatures (30°C). If the heat will be dry and tempered by the northeast wind on the northern half, it will become more painful in the south, with the outbreak of thunderstorms in the afternoon near the reliefs. In any case, this heat will remain moderate, without excess.

While this forecast is good news for many of you who have been waiting for these summer conditions, the surface drought situation will worsen in the north. The northeast wind, which will continue to blow, will accentuate the drying out of the soil. In the south, watering will remain uneven in space depending on the storms.
