Every Monday and Tuesday the first shows big films in the “summer cinema”. This year there are a particularly large number of German contributions.
As every year, the ARD refuses the summer slump on TV. At least when it comes to movies. From June 27th, the traditional “summer cinema” starts in the first. Top-class films will then be shown on Mondays (8:15 p.m.) and Tuesdays (10:50 p.m.). This year the focus is on German contributions. Five of the ten films are from German production. Among them are the TV premieres of the music films “I’ve Never Been to New York” and “Lindenberg! Do Your Thing”.
June 27, 8:15 p.m.: Knives Out – murder is a family matter
But the “summer cinema” starts with a top-class Hollywood film. In “Knives Out” stars like Daniel Craig (54), Chris Evans (40) and Ana de Armas (34) hold hands. The beautifully old-fashioned crime comedy was a surprise hit in 2019, and Craig signed on for two sequels.
July 4, 8:15 p.m.: Grandchildren for beginners
The first German film in this year’s “Summer Cinema”. The childless seniors Maren Kroymann (72), Barbara Sukowa (72) and Heiner Lauterbach (69) kill their boredom as loan grandparents – and get annoyed with helicopter parents and stressed single mothers.
July 11, 8:15 p.m. I’ve never been to New York
Free TV premiere for the film adaptation of the musical with the songs by Udo Jürgens. A cruise ship is the scene of the turbulent musical comedy, among others Heike Makatsch (50) and Moritz Bleibtreu (50) are on board.
July 18, 8:15 p.m.: Lindenberg! Do your thing
The second Udo film in the “summer cinema”. The biopic by Hermine Huntgeburth (64, “The White Maasai”) sheds light on the early years of Udo Lindenberg (75). From childhood to the first years in Hamburg to the breakthrough as a musician.
July 19, 10:50 p.m.: A woman of intoxicating talents
A new copy of the French comedies, which are extremely popular in Germany. Isabelle Huppert (69) plays a police translator who becomes a drug dealer due to lack of money.
July 25, 8:15 p.m.: The first name
The German film adaptation of the French comedy about a fight between two couples because one of them wants to name their child Adolf – which is even more controversial in Germany than in France. The German comedy elite, from Christoph Maria Herbst (56) to Florian David Fitz (47), are banging away.
July 26, 10:50 p.m.: Poisoned Truth
Legal drama based on a true story: The lawyer Robert Bilott (Mark Ruffalo, 54) has been fighting for almost twenty years against the chemical company DuPont, which releases harmful substances into the environment. Bilott’s marriage to wife Sarah (Anne Hathaway, 39) suffers from the dispute.
August 2, 10:50 p.m.: The Good Liar
A feast for acting fans: The British noble mimes Ian McKellen (82) and Helen Mirren (76) deliver a cat-and-mouse game as con artists and only seemingly unsuspecting widows.
August 8, 8:15 p.m.: Kaiserschmarrn drama
Part seven of the successful home crime series based on the Eberhofer crime novels by Rita Falk (57). Eberhofer (Sebastian Bezzel, 50) is looking for the murderer of a webcam stripper. Half his circle of acquaintances was a customer of hers…
August 9, 10:50 p.m.: The rose garden of Madame Vernet
Finally, a comedy from France. An aging rose breeder fights with three ex-prisoners for one last major breeding success.
