Summer 2023: the warmest in 2000 years – knowledge

To understand how exceptionally warm the summer of 2023 was, it helps to take a look back at the Roman Empire. Its heyday was accompanied by exceptionally favorable climatic conditions: in the so-called optimum of Roman times, people on the British Isles are even said to have grown wine and olives. The summer of 246 was particularly warm: it set a record in the northern hemisphere that would last until the beginning of industrialization, according to a team led by climate geographer Jan Esper from the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz now in the specialist magazine Nature reported.
