Subway in Munich: MVG expands service for the European Championships – Munich

Just in time for the start of the European Football Championship, the Munich Transport Company (MVG) has good news for its passengers. From this Friday, the U6 will once again run regularly on its route between the Großhadern Hospital and the Garching Research Center. According to the MVG, the work on replacing the switches in Fröttmaning will be completed in time for the opening match of the European Championship.

For football fans, the MVG runs an expanded service with special trains on match days. From three hours before kick-off, the U6 runs every three minutes between the city center and Fröttmaning. The MVG recommends arriving early to avoid waiting times and bottlenecks. Anyone wanting to go to the fan zone in the Olympic Park can take the U3 to the Olympic Center and, on match days, also the U8 (via Sendlinger Tor-Hauptbahnhof – Scheidplatz).

After the games, bottlenecks are to be expected at the train stations, says the MVG. If there is a risk of overcrowding, the stations will be closed for a few minutes. Overloading could occur particularly after 3 p.m. games.

An alternative underground connection to the Olympic site is via the U1 with a walk from the Gern underground station. Alternatively, passengers can also take the U1 to the Olympia shopping center and change to the U3 there. S-Bahn passengers have the option of changing to the U3 at the Moosach underground/S-Bahn station.

Tram lines 20/21 can be reached via the Olympiapark West stop on Dachauer Strasse. Anyone with a fan pass and a ticket for the stadium does not need a ticket and can use the entire MVV network. The combination ticket is valid from 6 a.m. on the day of the match until 6 p.m. the following day.
