Studies: Why the University of Eichstätt is so popular – Bavaria

Perhaps one should begin this hymn to the University of Eichstätt with the few things that don’t work so brilliantly. For example, there is the chronically overcrowded parking lot. Because many students from the region commute to the university, there is a shortage of space. The consequences: the student purse gets even tighter because there are fees for municipal parking lots or a ticket is stuck on an illegally parked vehicle. Parking surveillance in Eichstätt is strict.

Arriving by train is more exemplary, but not much more convenient. Because in Eichstätt you have to arrive twice to really be there: the city train station can only be reached by changing trains at an outpost in the middle of nowhere. Freshmen and guest lecturers regularly get stranded there. Well, that’s not the university’s fault, but wouldn’t there be smart people there who could take on this problem?

Apart from that and the fact that Eichstätt is like a ghost town during the semester break, what’s on the news ticker these days is true: The Catholic University (KU) Eichstätt-Ingolstadt is Germany’s second most popular university. At least that’s the result a ranking of the online portal Studycheck. It has been at the top of the ratings for years. Rightly so.

Anyone who was lucky enough to study at the KU knows why. Where else is there a renowned professor who rips his clothes off and dances ecstatically on stage at an event called “Night of the Profs”? Where else is there such a high probability of standing at the bar next to the lecturer in the evening – because there aren’t that many pubs in the small town? You toast yourself. It is this almost family atmosphere that sets Eichstätt apart from other universities. You can also study well, just by the way.

If only someone had told colleague S. many years ago when he toyed with the idea of studying journalism at the KU. But worried about the harsh gaze of Catholicism, he went elsewhere. Lord! Even people who are far from the church get through their studies well, and no one has been forced to convert here. As a journalism student, you can even play in a hobby team called “Porno Journos”.
