Strong mobilization on May 1, reintegration of caregivers and verdict for EDF

Did you miss the news this early morning? We’ve put together a recap to help you see things more clearly.

The mobilization against the pension reform is not running out of steam. Even if the record levels of the end of January were not reached, opponents continued to take to the streets en masse on Monday. According to the Ministry of the Interior, 782,000 people demonstrated throughout France, including 112,000 in Paris, during a “combative” May 1, marked by violence and an inter-union still united. The CGT for its part claimed 2.3 million demonstrators, including 550,000 in Paris. The challenge for the unions is now to remain united as differences begin to emerge over the executive’s invitations to resume dialogue on other labor issues.

The page will soon be turned on a major controversy in France about vaccination against Covid-19. After almost two years of suspension, caregivers who had been suspended for lack of a complete vaccination schedule will be able to be reinstated, François Braun announced this weekend. The Minister of Health provides for the publication of a decree to this effect “mid-May”. This decision comes after the favorable opinion of the High Authority for Health (HAS) given at the end of March on the lifting of the vaccination obligation against Covid-19 for caregivers and other professionals concerned.

In the file of the renationalisation of EDF, justice will play this Tuesday the game of the “Fair price”. The Paris Court of Appeal will indeed render its decision in the battle which has pitted small shareholders against the French State for months. Main bone of contention, the price of 12 euros per share at which the State has decided to buy back from the shareholders the titles which it lacks to fully control the electrician. A price deemed too low: the complainants claim a minimum of 15 euros. At the opening of the capital in 2005, the action had been sold for 32 euros, with a 20% discount for employees at 25.60 euros.
