Strong gale expected, the English Channel and Pas-de-Calais on orange vigilance

As of this evening, 50 French departments have been placed on yellow alert. The phenomenon should strengthen this Friday, March 31 and hit the Channel coasts harder. Météo-France has already placed the departments of Pas-de-Calais and Manche on orange alert due to the passage of storm Mathis to the south of the British Isles.

Brittany and Normandy will be the first to be hit with a start of vigilance issued from 6 a.m. for the Channel. The winds “could reach 100 km / h,” said the prefecture. In Pas-de-Calais, the orange alert begins at 11 a.m. and ends at 7 p.m. The wind can blow up to 120 km / h on the coast, according to the prefecture. “Over a large northern half, under stormy showers very locally, violent gusts of wind will be possible from Thursday evening over Brittany and Friday over the rest of the northern half”, specified Météo-France.

Placed in yellow vigilance, the department of Finistère has already put in place traffic restrictions on the Iroise bridge which leads to Brest where the speed will be limited to 70 or even 50 km / h at the height of the storm.
