Storm low Ignatz: severe weather warning for parts of Bavaria – Bavaria

The past few days have brought sunny and warm late summer weather in Bavaria – but now the first autumn storm has arrived: Ignatz has already caused damage in the Free State. The integrated control centers in Lower Franconia reported dozen missions on Thursday morning, mostly because of fallen trees, fallen construction fences or roof tiles blown from roofs. Sometimes there were power outages and blocked train routes. In Würzburg, scaffolding was blown over at an ambulance of the Red Cross. According to initial information, people were not harmed.

Fallen trees have caused considerable impairment and breakdowns in train traffic. There are problems especially on the ICE route between Würzburg and Nuremberg, said a spokeswoman for the railway. Trains would be diverted there, and delays could also be expected. Regional traffic between Siegelsdorf and Neustadt in Middle Franconia is also affected on the same route. There, the passengers would have to change to buses because the route is closed.

“Ignatz” has also paralyzed the S-Bahn

According to the spokeswoman, some S-Bahn trains do not run in Munich – buses are also used here instead. There are also restrictions in regional traffic between Treuchtlingen and Nuremberg and between Lichtenfels and Hof. The spokeswoman advised that passengers should inform themselves about the situation, which could constantly change, before starting their journey.

The German Weather Service (DWD) expects storm gusts in Bavaria until the afternoon on Thursday. In the course of the morning there should be gusts of wind at speeds of up to 90 kilometers per hour, initially in Franconia and Swabia, and later also in the eastern parts of the country. In northern Bavaria and in the higher mountains there could also be gale-force gusts of up to 115 kilometers per hour.

The fire brigade advises you to stay inside

For the Allgäu and the northern part of Franconia, the DWD also predicts heavy rain locally. Heavy gusts of wind cannot be ruled out here either. In the afternoon, the wind should weaken significantly. The reason for this is the cold front of the storm bottom Ignatz. Its focus is on Scandinavia, but the low crosses Bavaria on Thursday south-east, according to the meteorologists.

The Würzburg fire brigade called on people to avoid unnecessary stays outdoors. In Augsburg, the zoo was closed on Thursday due to the storm.

In the afternoon the wind should decrease, in some places the sun shows up. In Franconia it should rain again in the evening. The temperatures remain rather mild, they are 12 to 17 degrees and drop to 7 to 1 degrees at night.
