The weather in Bavaria remains unstable, and again, as on Monday evening, it hit the district of Rosenheim: At noon around 1 p.m., a storm hit the region. Especially in the area of the municipality of Halfing and the surrounding area, helpers had to move out, the local operations management took over the coordination according to the disaster control law.
In Halfing, the roofs of several buildings were covered by the hurricane-like storm. The church tower was also badly damaged and may be in danger of collapsing.
The area around the church tower was cleared within a radius of 150 meters. This affects residential buildings and a hotel with around 50 people. A kindergarten was also evacuated. After the first assessment by a structural engineer, due to the special construction of the church tower, a specialist structural engineer will now be called in to assess the condition of the church tower, said a spokeswoman for the Rosenheim district office.
The passage through town was blocked. Citizens are asked to stay in their houses and avoid the center of Halfing in large areas. Around a hundred households are without electricity.
As in Halfing, numerous cellars in Amerang were also full, they were already pumped out. The road from Amerang towards Obing was temporarily closed due to fallen trees, but is passable again.
In Höslwang, the roofs of three houses and a farm were damaged. The road between Sonnering and Höslwang had to be closed. In addition, a power line is about 150 meters long on the ground. A representative of the energy supplier has already been requested, according to the district office. Numerous emergency calls have also been received from Söchtenau. Exact information about the damage is not yet known here.
Due to the locally limited but very violent storm, trees could continue to topple or parts of buildings in the communities of Halfing, Amerang, Höslwang and Söchtenau. “Avoid staying outdoors, driving and walking under all circumstances,” warned a spokeswoman for the Rosenheim district administration.
Damage also in the Traunstein district
In the neighboring district of Traunstein, trees fell because of the storm, streets were flooded and several cellars were under water. According to the integrated control center in Traunstein, around 180 emergency calls were received due to the storm by Wednesday afternoon. The municipality of Obing was particularly affected with more than 80 missions. No injuries were initially reported.
“We had a very short, intensive emergency call situation of about three quarters of an hour,” said the managing director of the integrated control center in Traunstein, Josef Gschwendner, on Wednesday afternoon. “We are still working hard here, but nothing more is added.”
The German Weather Service expected the weather to calm down on Wednesday for Bavaria, at least on Thursday night. In the south of the Free State, however, the shower-like rains could continue in the coming days.
