The situation is getting worse near Augsburg. People have to leave their homes. It is no longer enough to go to higher floors, the authorities warn. Söder and Herrmann are on their way to the region.

Residents in certain streets in the town of Diedorf have to leave their homes. Due to the high water levels, an evacuation is being prepared in the Diedorf district of Anhausen, the Augsburg district office announced. “It is no longer sufficient to go to higher floors.”

A dam broke in Burgwalden and a dike at Anhauser Weiher gave way. All residents of the affected areas should immediately go to the Diedorf Schmuttertalhalle within the next hour. The authorities also called on people to stay away from railway underpasses. Floodwaters could flow through some of these areas. There is a risk to life.

Meanwhile, Bavaria’s Prime Minister Markus Söder and State Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann are on their way to the flood area in the Swabian district of Augsburg. The two CSU politicians want to get an idea of ​​the developments in Diedorf, the Interior Ministry announced.

The location of the visit had to be changed at short notice due to the situation. The politicians had previously wanted to visit Fischach, which was also badly affected. A state of emergency has now been declared in five Bavarian districts.
