The USA is regularly hit by severe storms, especially the southern state of Florida. The most recent hurricane caused extensive damage there.

US President Joe Biden visited the state Florida took a picture of the damage caused by Hurricane Milton. The Democrat flew over devastated areas near Tampa on Florida’s western coast and met with affected residents and emergency services.

“Fortunately, the impact of the storm was not as catastrophic as we predicted,” Biden said. For some people it was still a catastrophe. Many have lost their homes, all their belongings, and some also their lives or the lives of a relative. “Entire parts of the city were flooded, millions of people were without electricity,” complained the 81-year-old and promised help with reconstruction.

“In moments like these, we come together to be there for each other – not as Democrats or Republicans, but as Americans,” emphasized the President. Among other things, he announced millions in aid to restore power supply in several affected communities and make them more resilient to future storms.

Two severe storms within two weeks

Hurricane Milton made landfall about 100 kilometers south of Tampa as a level 3 hurricane with sustained wind speeds of up to 193 kilometers per hour. Shortly afterwards the storm weakened and moved out to sea.

According to several US media reports, the number of deaths in connection with “Milton” rose to at least 17. The US government estimates the damage caused by the hurricane at 50 billion US dollars, the equivalent of around 45.67 billion euros.

It was the second severe storm in just two weeks: “Helene” had previously moved across the southeast of the USA and left devastating devastation in several states. According to reports, well over 200 people lost their lives.
