Still many candidates at Science Po after the end of the entrance exam

Sciences po on the side. The famous institution has announced that it has registered nearly 12,000 applications for all of its post-baccalaureate training, following the wish formulation phases in Parcoursup. “Compared to 2020, we still have an increase of almost 60%. So we are still on a very high range of number of candidates and attractiveness, ”rejoices Mathias Vicherat, director of Sciences po.

The end of the entrance exam

The sharp increase in the number of candidates is explained by the reform of access to Sciences po. At the start of the 2021 school year, the Paris Institute for Political Studies entered Parcoursup, abandoning its traditional and selective entrance examination, and thus changing its admission procedures. The administration now evaluates the school file, the results obtained in the baccalaureate, the personal writings (to be attached to the file) and finally the oral (if the file is good enough). Four tests each evaluated out of 20.

“Last year, we were a little surprised by the number of applications, so we took these elements into account, recruiting more people for the administrative part. We also have 800 examiners planned for this year,” explains Mathias Vicherat.

Between 1,100 and 1,200 places for the next school year

The director, in office since last November, stresses that the candidates represent “all the academies, including overseas”. “The rate of scholarship holders in the candidates goes from 12% in 2021 to 14% this year”, assures the director.

For the next school year, Sciences po will offer “around 1,100 to 1,200 places” for the Parcoursup route. Sciences po “is not a competition so there is no fixed number of places” and “we also have 50% of international students, who are in other types of admission procedures”, underlines Mathias Vicherat.
