President Macron wants to promote France’s economy with a further 30 billion euros in government aid. The country should become a leading nation in research and innovation. Investments in nuclear power are also planned.

French President Emmanuel Macron has announced state aid worth 30 billion euros for his country’s industry. This aid is expected to flow by 2030 and help France become a leader in innovation and research. Macron said this when he presented the “France 2030” plan to entrepreneurs in Paris.

One billion euros of the sum is to be invested in the expansion of nuclear energy. Macron spoke of investing in new, small nuclear power plants that are safer. Investments must also be made in new technologies for better processing of nuclear waste.

Two million electric and hybrid cars by 2030

The intensive electricity production should in turn be used to produce green hydrogen. In addition, two million electric and hybrid cars should be produced in France by 2030.

Last but not least, the corona pandemic has shown how important innovation and industrial production are in the country, said the president. Both small startups and large industrial groups should be considered. “We need a country that produces more,” said Macron. “There are some areas where we as French and Europeans should be leaders.”

The 30 billion euros are planned in addition to the 100 billion euros recovery plan that France launched last year to deal with the Corona crisis.

Opposition criticizes plans

The chairman of the far-right Rassemblement National, Marine Le Pen, criticized the plans. Macron sounded like: “Whatever it costs, I want to be re-elected,” she wrote on Twitter. In France there are presidential elections in six months.
