M. ABDOLLAHI: THE SOLUTION IS VERY SIMPLE
Ofarim’s chain or that ofarim’s chain – we have a huge problem with anti-Semitism

I have no idea what really happened in the Leipzig hotel when Gil Ofarim was about to check in. But the hatred that is now being felt against him is unbearable and shows how widespread anti-Semitism is in our society.

Was Gil Ofarim insulted anti-Semitically in Leipzig or not? On a video that went viral two weeks ago, the singer tells of an incident in a hotel in Leipzig and demonstratively holds his chain with a Star of David into the camera. Pictures from that evening have now been published to show that Gil Ofarim allegedly did not wear this necklace. But does that de-legitimize his allegations? To be honest, I have my own opinion.

The Springer press is investigative again and is urgently trying to find out whether Gil Ofarim was wearing a chain with a Star of David in the Leipzig hotel when he was insulted or not. Why Springer of all people, I’ll leave uncommented for now.

I don’t know what really happened

We have no idea how believable the recordings are. We also have no idea what really happened in the hotel. What we do know is that after the incident, the hotel stepped from one fat bowl to the next. First with the unspeakable banner with the Israel flag and crescent moon and then with the commissioning of a relevant right-wing extremist security company to secure the hotel. A rogue who thinks evil.

Now the video recordings have been published. This can and should be discussed. But now it’s only really getting started. The hatred that Gil Ofarim faces is unbearable and clearly shows how widespread anti-Semitism is in our society. You just have to read the thousands upon thousands of comments. Whether under his own posts or under the articles on Facebook & Co. The most disgusting insults. Collectively they wish him death. Jewish conspiracy stories.

The only thing left to say is: not to see a chain. That is not to say that there was no anti-Semitic incident and that Gil Ofarim made it up. If someone says that they have been insulted anti-Semitically because of their Jewish beliefs, then doubts arise as to whether this was really the case and that person is then insulted anti-Semitically because of this – then that is anti-Semitism.

And now it’s your own fault! Why do you say your chain can be seen when your chain cannot be seen at all? So it is Gil himself to blame that in retrospect he is insulted in an anti-Semitic way. You are looking for a legitimation for the hatred, so to speak.

This is called Victim Blaming or in German: perpetrator-victim reversal. Women know this well, from sentences like: “It’s your own fault if you dress like that.” Or now in the case of Gil Ofarim: “What did you expect when you first said that and then that?”

But the culprit is always to blame. Never the victim. Never. Never. And this sacrifice, which is being driven through the village by thousands upon thousands of anti-Semites, is called Gil Ofarim. Because he’s a Jew. Chain back, chain back. We have a huge problem with anti-Semitism in Germany. And we can see that even more clearly now. It’s absolutely sickening. And even worse: it is a great danger to life and limb.
