With the progression of the Delta variant, the reinstatement of health restrictions continues. Spectators of the 19th stage of the Tour de France, Friday between Mourenx in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques and Libourne in Gironde, will have to wear the mask for the portion of the race passing through the Landes, the prefecture said on Wednesday.

This health obligation had already been instituted by the Gironde prefecture for the portion of the race planned in Gironde, where the entire 20th stage, a Libourne and Saint-Émilion time trial, is scheduled.

“In order to guarantee the health and safety of all the citizens present on the roads to follow the Tour de France, Cécile Bigot-Dekeyzer, Prefect of the Landes, took an imposing decree, from 10 am to 4 pm, the wearing of the mask for anyone over the age of eleven in a space of 20 meters on each side of the Tour de France route, ”said the prefecture.

According to ARS Nouvelle-Aquitaine, the incidence rate in this department was 38.8 per 100,000 inhabitants on Wednesday and the Delta variant represents nearly 74% of positive cases for Covid-19.
